Your Business Is Who You Surround Yourself With

One of the habits we teach in our 12 Habits of Highly Successful Entrepreneurs series is that to be highly successful, you need to surround yourself with positive, successful people who can pull your forward. For entrepreneurs and small business owners, this can play a critical part of your business success.

How so?

We all want to be inspired. It’s one of the primary reasons I’m in the business of coaching. I want to inspire others and help them take their business to new levels – to help them streamline their business, achieve the financial success they desire, and most importantly, have the time to live their values and enjoy their freedom.

As a business owner, you should surround yourself with people who encourage business growth, positive thinking, and living in balance. If it’s the vision you want for yourself, you’ll get there much faster by surrounding yourself with people who personify this vision.

Conversely, you may find it helpful to spend less time with people who may be holding you back – stressed out workaholics, negative people, and those who are constant complainers.  These people will drain you.

Associate with people who can lift you UP, not bring you down. Seek out people who can inspire growth and motivate you to achieve big success – without sacrificing your life and your values. Talk to folks whom you can lean on for support and who can offer a place to bounce off ideas.

Doing What You Love = Real Success

It pains me to hear about people not loving the work they do. After all, we all have a choice as to how we spend our time – and since life is short, we ought to focus on doing the things we love, right?

Whether you’re a small business owner or an entrepreneur, your happiness is what determines the quality of your life. One of the most profound lessons anyone in business can learn is that doing what you love will lead to greater business success.

If you’re financially successful, but constantly stressed, working all the time, or worried about work when you’re not “working,” then you’re not successful – you’re a slave. Sorry, but it’s true.

Your happiness touches both your personal life and your business life. So I say just be happy. Love the work that you do and let the happiness that follows spill into other areas of your life.

If you’re doing stuff you don’t enjoy, aren’t good at doing, or simply don’t have the time to do well – delegate that to someone who actually likes that kind of work and is good at it. Find someone on your team who enjoys the things you don’t, and move those tasks to them.

If you don’t have someone on staff who can quickly take over those duties, hire an independent contractor or outsource the work.

By capitalizing on your strengths, focusing on the work you love, and outsourcing the rest, you’ll get more enjoyment out of your business. As a result, you’ll enjoy more REAL success and be happier and more motivated at the same time.

Although it can be tough to let go of tasks, the long-term rewards far exceed the short-term pain.
