One suggestion to answer your question is to create two files- one is "To Do Later Today" and the other is "To Do This Week". Then, save 30 min at the end of each day to attend to the "later today" file and save some time on Friday to attend to the "To Do This Week". This has worked well for me and for my clients. I'm still learning how best to handle my email. I find it helps if I set a specific block of time, and/or have specific goals (for example, replying to a certain number of emails). I think gmail is really the best tool for all your tips, especially with their new inbox systems. I have it sort my unread emails by whether they're important or not, so that newsletters and such are further down and I can read them at my leisure. One thing I still struggle with is a system for saving emails to deal with later. What I've been doing is skimming them, then marking them as still unread.
