Your ideal clients are good-fit clients who bring in the most revenues. The first step to identify your ideal clients is to think about roughly the top 20% who brings in roughly 80% of revenues. The next step is to determine, of that group, who are your good-fit clients? Good-fit clients are people who you enjoy working with and who appreciate the value of your business. Conversely, bad-fit clients are those who tend to argue about your fees, repeatedly question the value of your business, and drain your energy. You know what I mean. We’ve all had them.

Identifying your good-fit clients is especially if you are a service-based entrepreneur, such as an attorney, consultant, real estate agent or accountant. Why? Because you have to work with them on an ongoing basis. If they drive you insane and you start to have homicidal thoughts, you are not moving in the direction of peace and joy that we want. Right? Bad-fit customers can suck the life out of you. Let’s nip them in the bud.

The bottom line is in order to enjoy real success and live life on your own terms, focus your resources and energy on your top 20% who are good-fit clients. Doing so not only accelerates your revenues, it greatly improves the quality of your life.

What do I mean by “real success?”

I mean running a business where every employee or team member knows exactly what is expected of them and eagerly wants to do their very best. Where you, the owner or Entrepreneur, can step in or step out and, either way, systems are working together smoothly to produce top notch products or services with reliably excellent results. A business where your uniqueness, how you shine and stand out as a company, is clear in everything you do. Where your customers are consistently happy with their experience and want to return to you time and time again and refer you to their friends. And I mean a business that brings you the profits, and moreover the freedom to live life on your own terms.

I love to help clients maximize profits and stop wasting time. Inefficiency has no place in business. It’s far better to run your business efficiently and effectively so you enjoy your days, increase your profits, and have more time left over to live the life you want.

Here are 3 steps to help you get there:

#1- Focus your efforts on the top 20% that yield approximately 80% of your revenue.

The Pareto Principle teaches us that approximately 20% of something creates 80% of results. For example, the Pareto Principle means that roughly:

20% of the input creates 80% of the result

20% of the workers produce 80% of the result

20% of the customers create 80% of the revenue

And on and on…

If you stop to look at exactly what type of person produces your greatest revenue, and focus on attracting that top tier, you will build your business quicker, with greater profits and more ease.

#2- Work in your Unique Abilities at least 80% of the time you spend on your business.

Your Unique Abilities are the intersection of what you are good at doing and what you love to do. So, for example, let’s say you are a builder whose passion and talent is designing a house and overseeing the building process. And let’s say that you do some of this, but you are also doing the billing, the marketing, meeting at every phase with every client, and so on. Because you are so scattered, you spend very little time in your Unique Abilities.

When you shift this pattern to work at least 80% in your Unique Abilities, and mindfully delegate the rest, guess what happens? Your happiness soars. You are more focused. Your energy improves and your profits increase. Who doesn’t want more of that?

#3- Track what marketing works and what doesn’t.

I can’t tell you how many entrepreneurs I meet who have no idea which of their marketing efforts is attracting more of their ideal clients and which is not. It is so easy to just “do” and not keep track. But the truth is, it is far better to measure what marketing works and what doesn’t so you can build on what is effective and stop wasting your precious time and money on what is not. Marketing is a finicky thing. You are wise entrepreneur to test it and implement what you learn.

Follow these three steps to save yourself precious time and money. As your energy is renewed and your profits improve, you’ll not only have a better business, you’ll enjoy a better life!

“It took a lot of years for me to get to this point… When I really understood that my primary aim was to feel and experience joy, then I began to do only those things that brought me joy. I have a saying “if it ain’t fun, don’t do it!” -Jack Canfield, motivational speaker and bestselling author

I love this quote and try to live by it. I’ve found it to be true throughout my life. When I enjoy something, and go in that direction, I am much happier and more energized. It makes sense but so often we do things that we dislike out of some sense of obligation. Thanks Jack for your wisdom.
